This clay sculpture is a great example of a gift for a very special occasion.
In this case it was a 75th Birthday celebrated by my client's Mom. He gave me a small photo of her and described her as an avid gardener, loving grandmother, and nurturing and caring mother. We had a long conversation, during which I tried to collect as much info on my Subject as I could. For example, the fact that Mom's favourite shoes are white Nikes (because she finds them the most comfortable), or that she likes to wear jogging pants, and she is well endowed in her shoulders and breasts.
I was also able to find out that Mom has a super sense of humour and that she loves to joke and laugh. Having all of that info helped in forming the idea of the "Family Garden of Love" where Mom is the loving, smiling gardener that nurtures her family like she does plants.
I morphed the family members into plants (cabbage, lettuce, etc). Mom is tending to them while holding a red heart and wearing her favourite shoes. Each family member is a plant. They have the correct eye colour and details such as glasses, a beard and hair colour.
I constructed the stand out of pine wood and as per the client's request added the Happy 75th Birthday sign. Clay figurines can move freely on the stand or can be permanently attached.
